True, though that would remove many of the features of youtube (like
search, related videos, accounts, and playlists). To be honest, I am
starting to suspect that this will ultimately lead to an extension to
search/watch videos on the TBB.

For youtube, this is pretty easy, but I've found a script that does
the opposite rewrite for the same reason (watch videos without needing
flash). For most video sites, it's the opposite situation, where their
embedding scheme requires flash, but you can watch .webm/.mp4 videos on
their website. And I've had embedded youtube videos fail to load under
TBB -- the difference could be /v versus /embed in the snippet.
