Comment (by lunar):
1. I'm trying to build a community of people interested in working on the
website! So sure, there's no development community yet. The fact that we
don't recognize the work on the website as something specific is why I
think designers and usability experts think we don't need them. Also
working on the website is not only a single project, it has to be
maintained and there's a lot of gardening to be done.
2. We have Tor Weekly News to acknowledge volunteers work, spread
information about progress and call for more help. This has been more
effective than “everyone on a crowded mailing list” approach.
3. If you work on the website, organizing information about the whole
project, I can be pretty sure that you feel that you are part of a wider
thing.
I am sorry but I don't feel like doing a public announcement in Tor Weekly
News and a dedicated blog post saying “we need help with the website.
Designers, usability experts, please come and join us” if the end is “you
should subscribe to tor-dev”.
I am not coming with this out of the blue. I'm coming with this after more
than two hundred people showed up at a session called “How to help Tor?”
during the 30C3, and discussing several times with web designers telling
me “I want to help, I just don't know where to go”. Could we just try to
make that place now?
