 torbrowser is installed through a PPA: ppa:webupd8team/tor-browser
 The desktop is Unity; no major modifications, but my ubuntu system is not
 a fresh install.
 I have the normal Unity bar (launcher?) to the left, status indicators
 etc. at the top, below the torbrowser menu, then the tab bar, the toolbar
 containing the URL and the actual browser window.

 I will try removing ~/.tor-browser-en and also installing from .tar.gz.
 But anyway, this shouldn't happen under any circumstances.

 Is there any javascript code I could run in a browser console to help
 isolating the root cause?
