Assuming that you mean the Tor Browser Bundle, simply uncompress
(i.e. tar xvf or equivalent commands in a GUI package manager) the new
Tor Browser tarball to the same destination directory as your existing
copy.

For a system Tor daemon, updating the package will not interfere with
the Tor daemon's config.
