 CellStatistics is definitely a special-purpose option; anything that we do
 to make it use less memory in 0.3.4 or beyond via #25141 is probably not
 going to be backported.

 The #24666 stuff, on the other hand, will get backported along with
 #24902.  We're going to need another alpha to shake all the issues out of
 #24902, however.
