 Mike's patch looks good to me. Mike please merge my branch to your branch
 (if you like it), and feel free to mark it as `merge_ready`.

 Also, Mike, it might be worth adding to your commit messages that the
 changes only affect vanguard circuits and should not affect general-
 purpose circuits.
