 Ah, OK, I think I see the issue. Are changes to torrc supposed to be made
 by editing

  /Users/heywood/Library/Application Support/TorBrowser-Data/Tor/torrc

 or

 /Applications/Firefox_Tor_7.5a2.app/Contents/Resources/TorBrowser/Tor/torrc

 before (re)starting TBB? As I noted in my original report, under normal
 conditions on my machine, with TBB running:
 * the former is an empty file;
 * making changes to the latter (with TBB not running) and then launching
 TBB doesn't do anything; and
 * making changes to torrc-defaults in the latter's directory DOES result
 in a second SocksPort.

 (FWIW, I'm checking for open ports using `nmap -v localhost -p 9000-9200`
 .)

 If editing the former is the correct way to go, then I'm all set and this
 ticket can be closed. But in that case I would suggest adding this info to
 the appropriate place in the Tor/TBB documentation.
