 This is indeed something in automake caused by changes in recent Perl
 versions. There are no automake releases that include the fix but it is
 fixed in the official repository (see
 http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/automake.git/commit/?id=13f00eb4493c217269b76614759e452d8302955e).
