 Oops.  Bad paste. . .should be

 `named` /etc/resolv.conf
    options timeout:5 attempts:2 max-inflight:4096 max-timeouts:1000000

 Where with 'named' a single retry is made after five seconds.  'named'
 does not retry requests where Unbound has an elaborate retry scheme.
