 Just checked with asn and his hands are still full with other things.
 Patch welcome if someone wants to take this on!

 When I [https://gitweb.torproject.org/stem.git/commit/?id=db5bfa4 added
 hidden service descriptor validation] I did some refactoring for signature
 validation which might benefit this too.
