Comment (by gk):

 https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16887 is the cause but we
 should not be affected by it. So we could use `--no-insert-timestamp` or
 just revert the patch until something better is found (see e.g. Steven
 Kitt's idea: https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2015-06/msg00099.html).
