 That message is probably this one from Tor Launcher:
 torlauncher.tor_controlconn_failed=Could not connect to Tor control port.

 It is displayed if Tor Launcher is unable to connect to the control port
 within 30 seconds after starting tor.  Maybe tor is taking a really long
 time to start up for some reason?  Running from a Terminal window and
 capturing the output generated would be helpful:

 (start Terminal)
 cd ~/Desktop/TorBrowser.app (or whatever path is correct)
 ./Contents/MacOS/TorBrowser.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox
