 Well, I tried to install 13.10 on two different laptops to try to
 reproduce this myself, but I seem to be running into
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1237843 or some
 variant. After a dist-upgrade, X11 becomes totally unusable. Upgrading to
 the "Proposed" kernel that supposedly contains a fix did not help.

 As I am still unable to run Ubuntu 13.10, I can't reproduce this or make
 any forward progress. :/.

 I still suspect that this has something to do with the fact that ibus,
 dbus, or some related component's IPC mechanism is not reachable from TBB
 now due to the fact that we reset $HOME to the TBB dir, but I cannot
 confirm this.
