 Proposed patch sounds plausible. Around that location was what I had in
 mind too.

 Deprecating or obsoleting the options sounds fine to me. Long ago, they
 were a way to turn on this feature. Now the feature is on by default, so
 they're only a way to turn it off. We don't need that anymore.
