 bug_12461_v2 has a fix that is almost working (linking is still failing
 but everything gets compiled). Note, we might want to bump the GCC version
 to 4.9.1 due to comment:6:ticket:12811 AND the planned hardening builds.
 The branch contains fixes for #12462 and #12798 as well. #12743 is fixed
 along, too.
