 Ok! GK emailed me a TBB built with a patched mingw that *might* actually
 finally solve this issue. I uploaded it here:
 https://people.torproject.org/~mikeperry/3.0a3-winxp/torbrowser-
 install-3.0-alpha-3_en-US.exe
