 clean VM without gitian, though, (to debug other/related issues) but that
 needs to be done in a different bug (not sure where crosstools-ng has its
 bugtracker).

 I agree that gitian is the end result here, however having crosstool-ng
 working outside of gitian is a necessary first step toward that result. If
 you feel this step merits a ticket of its own then that's fine, please go
 ahead and create one.
