Comment:

 I am almost sure this has to be a bug in whatever ubuntu autotools stuff
 you have.  On my fedora and OSX boxen, autoreconf only invokes libtoolize
 as needed.  Are there any ubuntu/autotools geeks who can take a look here?

 mazda, could you email me a copy of your /usr/bin/autoreconf for me to
 look at?

 Others: you can test this on your boxen by running "autoreconf -ivf" and
 seeing whether it tells you that it's using Libtool or not.
