#8438: TBB update doesn't work with torbirdy
---------------------------------+------------------------------------------

     Type: defect | Status: new
 Priority: normal | Milestone:
Component: TorBirdy | Version:
Keywords: torbirdy, TBB, port | Parent:
   Points: | Actualpoints:
---------------------------------+------------------------------------------
After the new update which changed ports: "Set the Tor SOCKS+Control ports
to 9150, 9151 respectively on all platforms
This fixes a SOCKS race condition with our SOCKS autoport configuration
and HTTPS-Everywhere's Tor test. Firefox 17 appears to cache proxy
settings per URL now, which resulted in a proxy error for
check.torproject.org if we lost the race."

Torbirdy would no longer connect with tor and says "the proxy is refusing
 connections"

Once I changed the port of TBB to 9051 like the previous TBB had it at
(which I downgraded to to get torbirdy to work again before), torbirdy
would start connecting but it would break torbrowsers functionality and
say "the proxy is refusing connections".
It doesn't work the other way around setting torbirdy's settings to custom
proxy at 9150 or 9151 like TBB is.

Has anyone else been having this problem? I think torbirdy's port settings
need to be changed as tor being at port 9150, 9151 by default?

I see a trouble shooting FAQ which says tor should be on port 9050 but in
my experience it never was to begin iwth.
