 That test isn't quite proper I think...  the random 127/8 address:port may
 well be taken.  Also, it might not even be on the same interface as
 specified by this option.  If you want to do a run-time test, better to
 bind the address specified by the user and test that, I think.

 (However, I don't think the test is necessary.  bind() will fail if it's
 not going to work.)
