 That seems like okay design from my pov, if other TBB/PT people agree that
 it makes sense to them.  But inasmuch as it requires changes to the
 patches here, it would probably need a bit more time to percolate in 0.2.5
 for a bit to make sure it isn't breaking anything, and a bit more thorough
 testing, than it would otherwise.
