Question 4: What would highlight the "donate to tor" section?
Answers:
- The mission of Tor seems a little vague, and I'm not sure what the
money would really go towards. Adding a YouTube video maybe helpful in
explaining some of the things that Tor does.
- Moving the donate buttons to the same side of the page as the logo
would help me to notice the buttons sooner. It would be a natural
progression of my eyes to look below the logo first as I scan the page.
- I think if its background color was changed to something more vibrant
and made it "pop" more, it would be more visually attractive and catch
people's attention.
- Perhaps the use of another, more noticeable, but still not ugly and
distracting, color for the donation box background would draw my eye more
to the donate portion of the page.
- I think the donation section is in a good location on the page, however
a change in color and font of the donation section might make it more eye-
catching. It might also be helpful to put some of the info from the donate
page on the main page such as the "what happens to my donation?" info and
the info at the top of the page under "make a donation". I think people
would be more willing to initially click the donate link if they were to
see this info first.
- I would add a brightly colored border to attract attention to the
"donate to tor" section.
- It would probably be more instantly obvious on the left hand side of
the screen and if the yellow used in the background was the same as in the
"Want Tor to work" box.
- I would put a block of purple behind the 'Donate to Tor' header, since
it would follow through with the theme and look more cohesive. I would
also shift the position of the header/cell toward the top-center section
of the page, as it will more immediately catch the eye of the website's
viewer. You could put some sort of border/image border around the outside,
but that might be over-kill.
- To help highlight the "Donate to Tor" section, I would add the
following headers in bold black text with a yellow background? "Are you
worried about your online Anonymity? Help us protect you and feel the
benefits of browsing securely."
- What the donation area needs is -A moving Tor image/figure moving his
arm pointing at the Donation button with a caption-" Please Show your
Appreciation " or something similar.
- The donation could be highlighted by using the same colorful pattern as
the Tor logo, possibly, or the text could be made slightly larger.
- Possibly have some sort of goal bar and how much has been raised
towards that goal.
- Having stories which will impress the visitors enough to want to
donate. There is nothing you need to do visually to make it stand out. It
is the benefits that need to be highlighted, as well as trust hat Tor will
use money for the cause not to benefit people who run it. I did not see
any information of what is the percentage of the donation that will go to
administration, for example. That's what I look for when I donate to a
charity.
- My two suggestions to make the donate are more noticeable would be to
make the donation box more central to the page instead of on the sidebar
or to not put it next to the yellow box mentioned above which draws the
eye away from the donation area.
- Putting a caption in that explains what the donation is for on the main
page
- I think that the easiest way to highlight the "Donate" section would be
to have a call to action after the download button is pressed. Have the
page show a graphic or section that is visible after the user has started
the download, with text asking for support.
- Perhaps the download button could be another standout color so it
doesn't detract from the well known colors of Paypal. The "other donations
options" color doesn't stand out at all, so people that dislike or don't
use Paypal might not see that there are other ways to pay. Making that
text a light darker might help. Possibly moving the download button
farther away from the donate section might help, but it does bring your
eye to the side of the page where the donate button is. I might move it to
the left a little, and change the color to the Tor colors inverted: green
button, purple text perhaps.
- I think you should make the name "Tor" look exactly like the logo with
the globe in the middle for the "o". Also, you could increase the letter
size of the phrase "donate to tor".
- If people want to donate, the "donate to tor" section is already
visible enough. If you want to make it even more visible it would probably
involve doing things that annoy people. You can do intrusive pop-overs and
interstitials, or boxes/bubbles that need to be closed with an x button.
Please don't ever do this, though, because that is the quickest way for me
to never donate or even return to a website.
- I think the background of the donate area needs to be a different
colour, to catch the eye. As it is, the donate button is smaller and less
intense than the colour in the center of the page.
- I think it is in a sufficient spot to be seen and does not need any
changes.
- One thing to consider would be highlighting the donation box (not
button) with similar colors/ complementing colors to the orange and purple
used for the other buttons (i.e. browser and download button).
