 If this is cumbersome, don't worry about it. Writing an XML manifest file
 sounds cumbersome. I didn't think previously about the directory
 containing the executable being in the default search path for DLLs. I
 guess Windows users are used to getting a pile of DLLs in their downloaded
 archives.
