 Oh, and we don't get there because we're using pipe(), not socketpair(),
 on mac.  You can override that by replacing "#if
 defined(_EVENT_HAVE_PIPE)" with "#if 0" in event_base_make_notifiable, if
 you're looking for a way to test.
